Q. What is it?
A. The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) in partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control launched the 2009 Prutehi Hao “Got Lucky? Get Tested.” Campaign on Monday, October 19, 2009 to promote safer sex practices.
Q. How does it work?
A. The “Got Lucky? Get Tested.” Campaign promotes a new method of testing for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia by using self-collection kits as an effort to expand the ease and accessibility of STD testing. In addition to these tests, a blood test for HIV and Syphilis is available. Simply request to get “tested”.
Q. Who is it for?
A. For anybody and everybody who has had sex (gotten “lucky”). However, if you have not had sex, but would like to get tested, you may. Getting tested is open to everyone.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. It is absolutely FREE.
Q. How private is it?
A. Super private, your privacy is of high priority.
Q. What kind of testing is included?
A. STD and HIV Testing
Q. What does the STD/HIV Program include?
A. - Counseling
- Referral Services
- Health Education
- Self – collection kits for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia
Q. What is the big deal?
A. For the past 5 years, over 800 cases of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea combined have been reported annually to DPHSS. Since 1985, over 200 HIV cases have also been reported to Public Health. It is important to note that these numbers continue to increase. Some STDs are silent, that is individuals may not be experiencing any symptoms even if they are infected. Thus, anyone who may have put themselves at risk may want to consider taking the tests, find out their status and learn how to protect themselves.
